Remembering the Nakba

Persist. Resist. Return.

The Nakba (“catastrophe” in Arabic) refers to the violent expulsion of 75-85% of all Palestinians from their homes by Zionist militias and the new Israeli army during the establishment of Israel (1947-49). This May marks 78 years since the Nakba. Israel has not stopped the violence – which is why Palestinians call Israel’s brutal genocide, apartheid, and military occupation “the ongoing Nakba.” Still, Palestinians have not stopped fighting for freedom, justice, and accountability.

You can help raise awareness about the Nakba—and connect the dots between Israel’s violence in 1948 and its violence today—by talking to your community so that more people will join the fight for a future where Palestinians can finally return home.
